SWIMMING AND DIVING DEFEATS UW-RIVER FALLS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both defeated UW-River Falls today. The men’s team tallied 181.00 points to UW-River Falls’ 57.00, and the women’s team tallied 167.00 points compared to UW-River Falls’ 70.00.

For the men’s swimmers, Matt Schultz (So.-Oakdale, MN/North) placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a 10:57. Alex Colborn (So.-Rochester, MN/Century) came in second in the 1000 yard freestyle with an 11:42. Ben Macalalad (Fr.-Wausau, WI/West) took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a 1:52, and Nicholas Mehring (Fr.-Eagan, MN/Eastview) placed second with a 1:55. Brett Olsen (So.-New Berlin, WI/West Allis Hale) came in third for the 200 yard freestyle with a 1:58. The Blugolds took the top three spots in the 50 yard freestyle. Patrick Finley (Jr.-Waunakee, WI) came in first with a 23.11. Sampson Simeon (Fr.-Madison, WI/East) took second with a 23:58. Duane Mateski (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) finished third with a 24.19. The Blugolds also swam well in the 400 yard IM. Jonathan Poppele (Fr.-Maple Grove, MN/Wayzata) placed first with a time of 4:32. Brian Jordan (Jr.-Madison, WI/West) came in second with a 4:39, and Clark Draxler (Jr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) finished third with a time of 4:55. Matt Schultz placed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a 57.10. Jared Martin (Fr.-Lakeville, MN/North) followed with a 57.83, and Alex Colborn placed third with a time of 1:02. Brian Jordan placed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a 51.23. Duane Mateski followed Jordan with a 52.09. Jonathan Poppele took first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.78. Bruce Eigner (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) followed Poppele in second with a 1:03. Patrick Finley swam a 5:09 on route to placing first in the 500 yard freestyle. Brian Lockwood (So.-Deforest, WI) placed second in the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:07. The 200 yard medley relay placed first with a 1:45.

For the men’s diving team, Brian Dykstra (Jr.-Racine, WI/Horlick) placed first at the 1-meter diving event. Three more Blugolds followed Dykstra. Dykstra also placed first in the 3-meter diving event.

For the women swimmers, Amanda Kroger (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle with an 11:26. Alyssa Trainor (Fr.-Winona, MN/Cotter) followed in second with an 11:40. Alyssa Mace (So.-Northfield, MN) placed third with a 12:00. Mari Bodenstein (So.-Red Wing, MN) placed first in the 200 yard freestyle with a 2:06. Mari Kissel (Fr.-Apple Valley, MN) placed third with a 2:07. Megan Finley (Fr.-Waunakee, WI) took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a 26.40. Lydia Beranek (Fr.-Onalaska, WI) placed third with a 26.88. Siera Schenck (Fr.-Sun Prarie, WI) took first in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:06. Hannah Rivall (Sr.-Stillwater, MN) followed with a 5:16. Amy Stewart (So.-South Milwaukee, WI) placed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a 1:03. Mari Kissel followed with a 1:05. Ann Grossklaus (So.-Wausau, WI/West) took first in the 100 yard freestyle with a 57.42. Amanda Kroger followed with a 57.97. Angie Bakula (Fr.-Appleton, WI/West) won the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:07. Megan Lindner (Fr.-Muskego, WI) followed with a 1:08. Amy Stewart easily won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:38. Jaclyn Blank (So.-Byron, MN) finished second with a 5:42. Jenna Spicer (Jr.-Hastings, MN) had the highest Blugold finish in the 100 yard backstroke. Spicer finished fourth with a 1:14. The 200 yard medley relay team placed first with a time of 1:58.

For the women divers, Sarah Myers (Sr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) placed first in the 1-meter event, and Becca Riek (Sr.-Sussex, WI/Wisconsin) placed third. Myers also placed first in the 3-meter event.

Next up for the swimming and diving team is the WIAC Conference Relays in La Crosse on November 17, at 9 a.m.
