DYKSTRA QUALIFIES FOR 2008 NCAA DIII CHAMPIONSHIPS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Junior diver Bryan Dykstra (Racine, Wis./Horlick) will represent UW-Eau Claire at this year’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships, scheduled for March 20-22 in Oxford, Ohio.

At nationals, Dykstra will compete in both the one and three-meter diving events. He is one of only 22 others from around the country that will compete in each event. The one-meter dive will be held on Thursday, March 20, while the three-meter will take place on Saturday, March 22.

Dykstra was selected to compete in the NCAA Championships this year after winning the one-meter dive at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (WIAC) at the end of February. He also took third place in the three-meter dive. Oshkosh’s Jacob Chadderdon, who took the top spot in the three-meter and second in the one-meter, will also represent the WIAC at the year’s NCAA Championships.

This will be Dykstra’s second trip to nationals, his first being in 2005. At the 2005 Championships, Dykstra placed sixth in the one-meter dive but missed the finals of the three-meter dive after taking ninth in the preliminaries. To advance to the finals, a diver must finish eighth or higher in the prelims.

At this year’s championship, Dykstra will look to become the Blugolds’ sixth diving national champion. Since the Blugolds entered the NCAA in 1994, they have had five diving and one swimming national champions.
