SEVERSON SWIMS IN 100-YARD FREESTYLE TO WRAP UP NATIONALS

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - UW-Eau Claire swimmer Cori Severson (Sr.-Brainerd, MN) finished up her experience at the NCAA Division III Nationals today in the 100-yard freestyle.

Going into the prelims, Severson's best 100-yard freestyle race of the year at 51.74 was also the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) all-time record. It came at the WIAC Championships.

However, Severson did not make past the prelims, swimming a 55.13 race and taking 39th out of 42. Only the top 16 moved on, with the top eight going to the championship heat and the next eight moving on to the consolation finals. The last qualifiers posted races of 53.25. Becky Weima from Calvin College won it all with a 51.03 time in the championship heat.

Severson also swam Thursday, where she took 11th in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.69. Becky Weima also won that event, her time being 23.30.

Severson was the only member of the Eau Claire team at nationals this year.
