MEN’S HOCKEY SET FOR TUESDAY NIGHT REMATCH WITH ST. THOMAS
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team will have another chance against non-conference rival St. Thomas University (Minn.) on Tuesday night at Hobbs Ice Center in Eau Claire. The Blugolds traveled to St. Paul earlier this season to take on the Tommies, Eau Claire held a 3-1 lead after the first period but saw St. Thomas score four more goals to get the 5-4 victory. The Blugolds are 5-14-2 all-time against the Tommies. Eau Claire has not beat St. Thomas since January 8, 2000 when the Blugolds won 6-3 at Hobbs Ice Center. Eau Claire tied with St. Thomas in 2002 1-1 and 2005 by a score of 5-5. The Blugolds are 4-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Tommies enter play with a 6-1-1 overall record. The No.-10 ranked St. Thomas handed No.1-ranked UW-River Falls its first loss, 5-0, in non-conference action. The Tommies also skated to a 3-3 tie against No.-8 ranked UW-Stout. Eau Claire was defeated by UW-River Falls 5-3 and UW-Stout 2-1 this past weekend in conference play. Leading Eau Claire’s offensive attack is Sean Garrity (Sr.- North St. Paul, MN/North) with 10 points coming off of five goals and five assists. Andrew Johnson (Jr.- Andover, MN/Anoka) also has five goals on the season. Tony Janssen (So.- Superior, WI) and Bryan Plaszcz (So.- Apple Valley, MN) each have three goals for the Blugolds. Tyler Trudell (So.- Waukesha, WI/South) leads the team with six assists on the year. Eau Claire’s offense is 11-for-45 on the power play with a conversion percent of .244. The Blugolds defense led by goalie Tyler Brigl (So.- Eagan, MN) has held opponents to 6-for-50 on the power play with a conversion percent of .120. Brigl is 4-5-0 on the season with 214 saves for a save percentage of .903. Brigl has allowed 23 goals on the season, allowing opponents 2.57 goals per game. Nick Pernula is leading the way for the Tommies with 13 points on the season coming off of four goals and nine assists. Adam Davis is leading the team with seven goals. Nate Ryan and Alex Coles each have three goals for St. Thomas. The Tommie offense is 7-for-36 on the power play with a conversion percent of .194. Tyler Chestnut is 4-1-1 on the season with 142 saves for a save percentage of .893. Chestnut has allowed 17 goals on the season allowing opponents 2.67 goals per game. Cameron Voss has also seen some time in the net for the Tommies, Voss is 1-0-0 on the season with 18 saves and one allowed goal. The Tommie defense has held opponents to 6-for-27 on the power play with a conversion percent of .222. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at Hobbs Ice Center in Eau Claire. - KD -
