MENOMONIE, Wis. – Seven UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey players received recognition on the All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Academic team, league sports information director Layne Pitt announced today. Jeremiah Weber (Sr.-Hayward) led the Blugolds as a four-time selection to the team. Weber, a kinesiology major, played in five games this season for the Blugolds. Peter Bracker (Jr.-Albert Lee, Minn.) and Mike Schneider (Sr.-Owatonna, Minn.) were selected for the second time in their collegiate careers. Schneider is a criminal justice major while Bracker is a nursing major. This season, Bracker assisted on four goals, playing in all but one game, while Schneider saw action in six games. Making the All-NCHA Academic team for the first time were goalie Tyler Brigl (So.-Eagan, Minn.), forward/defenseman D.J. Clark (So.-Blaine, Minn.), and forwards Andrew Johnson (Jr.-Andover, Minn./Anoka) and Nate Smith (So.-Clayton, Wis.). Brigl, an accounting major, made a big impact in goal this season for the Blugolds, playing almost 1,420 minutes in the net out of a possible 1,506. Brigl allowed 57 goals and saved 532 shots, for a save percentage of 90.3 percent. Brigl also posted four shutouts this season, the first time a Blugold has ever had that many in a single season, and now has five career shutouts, which is also a team record. Health care administration major Johnson was third on the team with 16 points with 11 goals and five assists, playing in all 25 games this season. Clark, who is majoring in kinesiology, played in 21 games this season, picking up two goals and four assists, while Smith, a biology major, scored four goals and added three assists in 14 games.
