MEN’S HOCKEY ANNOUNCES TEAM AWARD WINNERS

EAU CLAIRE – UW-Eau Claire head men’s hockey coach Luke Strand announced the team award winners for the 2006-07 season recently at the team’s end-of-year banquet.

The Jeff Jaraczewski Award, given to the team’s Most Valuable Player, was presented to left wing Sean Garrity (Jr.-North St. Paul, MN). A first team All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selection this past season, Garrity led the Blugolds with 27 points, 13 goals and seven power play goals. Garrity recorded on one three Blugold hat tricks this season when he netted the final three Eau Claire goals in a 5-4 victory against Hamline (MN).

The Richard G. O’Brien award presented to honor work ethic and hustle was given to right wing Andrew Johnson (So.-Andover, MN/Anoka). Johnson scored the only two Blugold short-handed goals this season in addition to finishing second on the team with 10 goals and five power play goals. Johnson recorded his first Blugold hat trick and than some when he tallied four goals and one assist in a 9-0 victory over Concordia-Moorhead.

The Most Dedicated Player Award was presented to team tri-captain defenseman Kyle Garner (Sr.-Sun Prairie). An honorable mention All-WIAC selection the last three seasons, Garner scored nine points off eight goals and one assists including one power play goal.

The Wallace G. Akervik Memorial Award given to the freshman of the year was presented to defenseman Tyler Trudell (Fr.-Waukesha/South). Trudell appeared in 23 of 27 games this season scoring two goals and two assists. One of Trudell’s goals came on a power play.

Eau Claire finished the season with an overall record of 9-14-4 including a 2-9-3 count in the NCHA. The nine overall wins were the most by an Eau Claire team since the 2003-04 season when the Blugolds went 14-12-1. The two NCHA wins doubled the team’s NCHA win total from the previous two seasons combined.
