MEN’S GOLF SET FOR NCAA DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – On Tuesday the UW-Eau Claire men’s golf team will tee off at the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship. The tournament will be held May 13-16, at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia and co-hosted by Emory University and the Gwinnett Sports Commission. This will be the 20th appearance at nationals for the squad. For the second year in a row, the team was selected as member of Pool B, which had independent schools and schools that are members of a conference that doesn’t meet the requirements for automatic qualification. Seven other teams were selected from Pool B. Representing Eau Claire at this year’s championship will be Pete Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, Wis.), Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.), Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan), Ben Ziemann (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, Wis.). The team will tee off between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the first day of competition. Last year Eau Claire finished the championship in ninth place, only one stroke behind the two teams that tied for seventh. Milner is the only returning Blugold who competed on last year’s team at nationals. He finished tied for 94th overall. On the first two days of competition this season, the field will consist of 35 teams and five individuals. Following Wednesday’s play, only the top 23 teams and the five individuals will continue playing for the national title on the final two days. NCAA Division III Championship Web site - KM -
