MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY ANNOUNCES TEAM AWARD WINNERS
EAU CLAIRE – First year UW-Eau Claire men’s cross country head coach Brian Falk recently announced the team award winners for the 2006 season. The Most Valuable Runner Award went to Kevin Hall (So.-Green Bay/Preble). Hall was the top Blugold finisher in four of six meets he competed in during 2006 while finishing second in the other two meets. Hall finished 30th overall at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships and 55th at the NCAA Midwest Regional where he ran a season-best time of 26:01. The Most Promising Newcomer Award was presented to Chris Wirtz (Fr.-Weston/D.C. Everest). Wirtz finished among the top five Blugold finishers in all but one meet he competed in during his first season at Eau Claire. The Most Improved Athlete Award went to Mark Sanders (So.-Hammond/St. Croix Central). Sanders nearly took two minutes off his time from the beginning of the season to the end going from a 29:18 to 27:24 from his first meet to his last of 2006. The Blugold Pride Award went to Ted Lillie (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN). The Blugold award is presented to “an all-around committed scholar-athlete and teammate.” The Blugolds completed the season with an overall record of 101-61 finishing sixth at the WIAC Championships and 13th out of 37 teams at the NCAA Midwest Regional.
