NEWCOMERS JOIN RANKS OF MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
EAU CLAIRE – From the athletes to the coach, this year’s UW-Eau Claire men’s cross country team enters this season with a fresh approach. Coach Brian Falk is in his first year at Eau Claire though he has coached before, most recently at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania. Also new to the team are 11 freshmen. These runners include Nate Flesch (Platteville), Kyle Kopidlansky (Manitowoc/Lincoln), James Marsh (Madison/West), Ben Pearson (Clinton), John Rainey (Platteville), Max Renner (Green Bay/East), Brian Riley (Chippewa Falls), Jake Ring (Manitowoc/Lutheran), Nick Roy (Green Bay/Bay Port), Andy Sol (Menomonie), and Chris Wirtz (Weston/DC Everest). There are five letterwinners returning to the team. Underclassmen Kevin Hall (So.-Green Bay/Preble) and Brent Kann (So.-Rice Lake) performed well for the team last year and Hall never fell below third for the team the entire last season. Ted Lillie (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN), Jules Miller (Jr.-Green Bay/East), and Adam Wolfe (Jr.-Marshfield) look to bring experience to the squad. Other upperclassmen are comprised of Adam Burandt (Jr.-New Germany, MN/Central), Peter Macky (Sr.-Grafton), and Bryan Willkom (Jr.-Marshfield). The sophomore segment adds more youth with Tony Carr (Menomonie), Weston Fischer (Rosemount, MN), Mark Sanders (Hammond/St. Croix Central), Andy Warren (Kenosha/Bradford), and Rob Wilcox (Green Bay/Southwest). The team looks to improve from last year when they finished eighth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships and 19th in the NCAA Division III Regionals.
