MEN’S BASKETBALL TO HOST UW-STOUT ON WEDNESDAY
EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball team will host I-94 rival UW-Stout on Wednesday night at Zorn Arena. The Blugolds currently have a 9-8 overall record and a 3-6 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) record. Eau Claire has won its last two games and is coming off of a convincing 65-47 win over 16th- ranked UW-La Crosse on Saturday. The Blue Devils have an overall record of 9-8 and a conference record of 2-7. Stout is currently on a five-game losing streak after losing to UW-Platteville 56-38 on Saturday. The Blue Devils defeated the Blugolds earlier this season in Menomonie by a score of 65-42. Stout’s Jacob Nonemacher had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win. The Blugolds are 4-4 at Zorn Arena this season. Eau Claire is averaging 63.4 points per game and so are its opponents. In conference play, the Blugolds are just averaging 54.7 points per game, while opponents are averaging 65.6 points per contest. The Blugolds are also tied in field goal percentage with their opponents at 44%. The Blugolds are shooting 37% on three-point field goals with Luke Meier (Jr.-Cross Plains, WI/Middleton) shooting 56% and Jared Bardon (Jr.-DeForest, WI) shooting 48%. They have made 35 more three-point field goals than their opponents. Eau Claire is also out-rebounding its opponents by an average margin of four rebounds per game. Jared Bardon leads the Blugolds in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game. Bardon has a field goal percentage of 50% and leads the team with 14 steals. Dan Beyer (Jr.-Waukesha, WI/Catholic Memorial) is averaging 12.4 points per game and is coming off of a double-double effort against La Crosse with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Beyer leads the Blugolds in rebounds, averaging 6.5 boards per game. The Blue Devils are 0-4 on the road in conference play. The Blue Devils are shooting 48% from the field and are holding opponents to just 39%, which is best in the WIAC. Stout is out-rebounding its opponents by an average of six rebounds per contest. The Blue Devils also have 85 blocks this year, which second-most in the conference. Jerrel Enerson-Matthews leads the Blue Devils in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game. He has made 33 three-point field goals, the most on the team and is the best free throw shooter at 74%. Jacob Nonemacher is averaging 12.9 points per game and averages 9.2 rebounds per game. Nonemacher has made 57% of his shots from the floor. He also has 50 blocked shots this season. The Blugolds are 108-61-1 all-time against the Blue Devils. Stout however has won the last six meetings. The Blugolds and the Blue Devils tip-off at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at Zorn Arena. - JR -
