FOOTBALL AND WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYERS RECEIVE CONFERENCE HONORS

UW-Eau Claire football player Sam Cummings (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) and women’s tennis player Gina Dahl (So.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) have been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the week, conference spokesman Matt Stanek has announced.

Cummings led the Blugolds defensively in a 14-3 victory over Black Hills State University (S.D.) on Sept. 8. He had 14 tackles (four solo), including one for a loss of six yards. Cummings recovered a blocked punt on BHSU’s first drive and took it back nine yards to set up the Blugolds’ first touchdown. He also pounced on a loose ball late in the first quarter to set up the second Blugold touchdown.

Dahl went 4-0 over the weekend and never lost a set. At Edgewood College on Sept. 7, Dahl defeated Kelsey Steinhorst 6-2 and 7-5. On Sept. 8 at the UW-Whitewater Invitational, Dahl defeated opponents from Augustana College (Ill.), UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater on her way to a first-place finish at No. 2 singles.
