TWO BLUGOLD ATHLETES RECEIVE WIAC RECOGNITION

MADISON, Wis. – UW-Eau Claire wrestler Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and women’s field member Amy Morse (Jr.-Kaukauna, Wis.) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) players of the week, conference spokesman Matt Stanek has announced.

Competing at UW-Eau Claire Invitational on February 2, Holforty took first place at 197 pounds, winning three matches and was named the invite’s outstanding wrestler. In his first match, Holforty defeated UW-La Crosse’s Zach Strickland 6-0, and followed with a 16-5 major decision over UW-Stevens Point’s Zach Ison. In the championship match, Holforty won 8-3 over UW-La Crosse’s Tim Winker. Holforty is now 24-5 on the season and is ranked sixth in the nation at 197 pounds.

At UW-Stout’s Warren Bowlus Open on February 2, Morse set a school record in the 20-pound weight throw. Her fling of 51-9 lifted her to a first-place finish and also improved her provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Championship.
