BLUGOLD VOLLEYBALL AND SOCCER TO HOST AS NO. 1 SEED
The UW-Eau Claire volleyball and women's soccer teams are the No. 1 seeds in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournaments next week and will host as long as they continue to win. The volleyball team, which is 26-2 for the season and shared the regular-season conference title with UW-Oshkosh at 7-1, will face rival UW-Stout, the No. 8 seed, in a quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the McPhee Phy Ed Center. The Blugolds earned the No. 1 seed since they beat Oshkosh in their conference match this year. The Blugolds' only conference loss came at the hands of defending NCAA Division III national champion UW-Whitewater which finished third in the league. The Blugolds beat Stout, 3-0, in their only meeting this year. The Blue Devils were 1-7 in the league and 14-12 for the season. If the Blugolds win Tuesday, they would host the WIAC Final Four Tournament Friday and Saturday. Friday's matches would be played at 5 and 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's third-place and championship matches would take place at 4:30 and 7 p.m. The soccer team, which is 18-2 for the season and won a second consecutive conference crown with an 8-0 record, will face UW-Platteville, the No. 8 seed, in a quarterfinal game at 2 p.m. Tuesday on the Bollinger Fields. The Blugolds beat Platteville, 3-1, in their only meeting this year. The Pioneers were 1-5-2 in the conference and 12-6-2 overall. If the Blugolds win Tuesday, they would host the WIAC Final Four Tournament Friday and Saturday. Friday's games would be played at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. while Saturday's championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Tickets for the volleyball and soccer tournament games will be $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for youths through high school age. All UW system students will be admitted free upon presentation of a valid university ID. - TP -
