McKINNEY, KOKTA NAMED WIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MADISON - UW-Eau Claire softball pitcher Mallory McKinney (Jr.-Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) and women's track and field jumper/sprinter Erin Kokta (Sr.-Brookfield/East) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by conference sports information director Matt Stanek.

McKinney picked up all four pitching wins in doubleheaders against UW-Stout and UW-River Falls during the week. She started the front end of both games and earned complete game victories and came on in relief to earn extra inning triumphs in both second games. McKinney ran her string of consecutive scoreless innings to 61 and her string of innings without allowing an earned run to 66 before UW-River Falls scored with one out in the first inning of the first game. For the week, McKinney pitched 18.1 innings, allowed 12 hits, one run (earned) and one walk while striking out 13. Her shutout against UW-Stout was her ninth of the season, tying the school single-season record set by Kari DeGross in 1988 and Heidi Bergstrom in 2000. She now owns a 15-1 season record with a 0.45 ERA and has walked five and struck out 100 in 93.2 innings. The award marks the third time this season that McKinney has been named WIAC Pitcher of the Week.

Kokta recorded a pair of NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks at the Blugold Open on April 14. She won the long jump with a leap of 18-7 3/4, which currently ranks fourth in the nation, and finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 37-10, which ranks fifth in the country. She also added a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-3.
