OLSON NAMED NCGA ALL-AMERICAN IN ACADEMICS

CORTLAND, N.Y. – UW-Eau Claire gymnast Kristi Olson (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) has been named a 2008 NCGA All-American in Academics recipient, NCGA officials recently announced.

Olson is a Spanish and organizational communications double major who carries a 3.74 cumulative GPA. She has received Dean’s List and academic distinction honors each semester during her collegiate career at UW-Eau Claire. Last season Olson was also recognized on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Scholastic Honor Roll. Last year she also received the Leslie D. Polk Scholarship from UW-Eau Claire’s Department of Communication and Journalism. The award is given to a student “who has demonstrated service and leadership to the campus and community, cultural interests, and shows promise as a future community leader.”

As part of the Blugold gymnastics team, Olson was a four-year participant at the NCGA nationals. This season she was the highest finisher for the Blugolds, taking 15th place as an all-around competitor. Olson previously received all-conference honors on the vault in 2005, when she was also voted the team’s most improved gymnast. Last season Olson was also named the team’s MVP and was the team’s captain this season.

Olson joins only 12 other Blugold gymnasts to receive NCGA All-American in Academics honors in program history.
