INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION CONCLUDES AT NCGA CHAMPIONSHIPS

EAU CLAIRE - The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships wrapped up today at the McPhee Physical Education Center where Danin Squires of SUNY-Cortland repeated as balance beam champion as she tied with UW-Eau Claire's Lynn Morris with a score of 19.100.

Jennifer Williams of UW-Oshkosh finished in third place in the balance beam competition with a score of 9.050.

The vault belonged to Alyssa Cox of Gustavus who posted a score of 18.925 to claim the vault crown. Luisa Gutierrez of Cortland finished in second position with a score of 18.775 while Alison Eagles of Eau Claire and Amanda Parker of Gustavus tied for third with scores of 18.700. Parker claimed the vault title last season with a score of 19.150.

The uneven bars were dominated by UW-La Crosse as Michelle Saxton and Nina Schubert finished in first and second place. Saxton claimed the uneven bars title as she scored a 19.050, nudging out fellow Eagle Schubert who scored a 19.025. Megan Hollern of Ursinus finished in third, scoring an 18.675.

The floor exercise crown was won by Jordan Christiano of SUNY-Brockport with a score of 19.375. Amanda Parker of Gustavus made it two top-three finishes on the day a she claimed second on the floor with a 19.275 while Jenny Struve of UW-La Crosse finished with a 19.250.

At the conclusion of the individual competition the NCGA held its annual award ceremony where Gary Babjack of SUNY-Cortland received the Coach of the Year award and Jennie Williams of UW-Oshkosh was awarded the NCGA Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

Babjack completed his fifth season as coach of Cortland and has lead the Red Dragons to back-to-back second place finishes at the NCGA Championships. He has also guided Cortland to two straight ECAC Championships and his athletes have earned 13 Division III All-American honors coming into this season's championship.

Williams is a nursing major who carries a 3.57 grade point average and has been a Titan captain for three straight years. At the 2003 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships she won the conference balance beam title for the second straight year and has also earned All-Conference honors 11 times as well as being an All-American three times.
