FOOTBALL HANDS OUT TEAM AWARDS
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire football team recently handed out its team awards from the 2005 season. Quarterback Jesse Krzyzanowski (Sr.-Thorp, WI) was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year. Jesse Krzyzanowski was named to the second team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) this past year and broke numerous Blugold records. He now holds the record for pass completions in a season with 214 and pass completion percentage in a season at 64.7%. He also broke the record for most touchdown passes in a game this season with six. Jesse Krzyzanowski was also named the Tailback/Quarterback of the year. Safety Brent Tieri (Sr.-Rockford, MN) was named Defensive Player of the Year. Tieri was a first team All-conference selection and a D3football.com All-West Region first team selection at defensive back. He was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V first team and was one of 47 division III athletes to be selected to play in the Aztec Bowl, which will take place tomorrow in Toluca, Mexico. Derek Sikora (Sr.-Neillsville, WI) took home three team award. He was named Special Teams Player of the Year. Sikora was named to both the first team All-WIAC team and the D3football.com All-West Region third team as a return specialist. Sikora was also named the team's Defensive Back of the Year. He was named to the All-WIAC second team as a defensive back. Sikora also won the Justin Greenwood Award for being the hardest worker over the off-season. Darin Krzyzanowski (Sr.-Thorp, WI) was named Wide Receiver of the Year. Darin Krzyzanowski was an All-WIAC honorable mention at receiver and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V second team. He broke the school record for receptions in a season with 61. Others receiving offensive player awards were Brandon Basken (Sr.-Manitowoc, WI/Lincoln), who took home the Offensive Lineman of the Year award. Basken was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second team. Garett Pankratz (Sr.-Milladore, WI/Auburndale) was the Tight End of the Year, while Mike Hennessey (Sr.-Somerset, WI) was the Fullback of the Year. The Defensive Lineman of the Year award went to Nate Jahn (So.-Alma Center, WI/Lincoln). Jahn was a second team All-WIAC selection. Dan Rogney (Jr.-Auburndale, WI) was named the Linebacker of the Year. Kicker Mitch Schaeuble (So.-Wrightstown, WI) was named the Specialist of the Year. Schaeuble was an All-WIAC second team selection as a punter and received honorable mention as a kicker. He also made the D3football.com All-West Region third team as a punter. Schaeuble broke the school record this past season for field goals in a season with 10. Offensive Newcomer of the Year was Matt Day (Fr.-Austin, MN). Defensive Newcomer of the Year was Tom Dohr (Fr.-Neenah, WI) and Special Team Newcomer of the Year was Paul Bielmeier (Fr.-Edgar, WI). Scout Players of the Year were Ryan Darley (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi.Hi.) on offense, Nate Stemper (So.-St. Anthony, MN) on defense, and Craig Polifka (Fr.-Kewaunee, WI) on special teams. Kicker Andy Schneider (Sr.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) took home the A.C.E Award for his attitude, commitment, effort, and enthusiasm. The captains for the 2006 season will be Dan Rogney, Matt Evensen (Jr.-Junction City/Auburndale), and Brad Alexejun (Jr.-Green Bay WI/Ashwaubenon). - JR -
