FERGUSON, SIKORA NAMED WIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MADISON - UW-Eau Claire wide receiver Erik Ferguson (Sr.-Rochester, MN/Dover-Eyota) and defensive back Derek Sikora (So.-Neillsville) have been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conferene (WIAC) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, it was announced today by conference sports information director Matt Stanek.
Ferguson had a solid game to spark UW-Eau Claire to a 24-21 come-from-behind victory over third-ranked UW-La Crosse on Saturday, October 11 at Carson Park in Eau Claire. He helped the Blugolds jump out to a 10-0 lead with a 38-yard reception on the opening drive which set up a 38-yard field goal. On the next Blugold possession, Ferguson struck again, this time with a 56-yard touchdown reception. Ferguson finished the day with 11 receptions for 177 yards and one touchdown as UW-Eau Claire posted 24 points against a defense that had allowed only 14.2 points per game on the season.
Sikora spearheaded UW-Eau Claire to a 24-21 victory over third-ranked UW-La Crosse on Saturday, October 11. He helped the Blugold defense hold the Eagles to zero points in the second half, by tying for the team lead in tackles with six on the day and adding two interceptions. His fourth quarter interception stopped a late UW-La Crosse drive and preserved the victory for the Blugolds.
