WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD RUNS AT THREE EVENTS

DES MOINES, Iowa, INDIANAOLA, Iowa, OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team continued to participate in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, but they also participated in the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa and the UW-Oshkosh Open.

In Oshkosh, the Blugolds took third of nine teams. The home squad won with 201 points while Northern Michigan University took second with 110. Eau Claire’s third came off 82 points. Fourth went to UW-Stout’s 73 while North Central College (Ill.) had 26 for fifth.

The Blugolds placed in the top five for many events. Ewa Warnquist (Jr.-Vaxjo, Sweden/Af Chapman) took first in the 200-meter dash with a 25.60. Alyssa Reindl (Jr.-Oostburg, Wis.) had a 62.46 400-meter dash for second. Laura Napier (So.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) was also the runner up in the 5,000-meter run on a 20:07.46 race. Jenna Smith (So.-Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper) finished third in the 800-meter run with a 2:27.60. Kelly Palmer (So.-Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) had a time of 4:59.42 in the 1,500-meter run for fifth.

The 4x400-meter relay team’s 4:27.33 was good enough for second.

Eau Claire found success in the field events as well. Alicia Schuelke (Jr.-Gilman, Wis.) took the top spot in the high jump with a 1.66 meter (5’ 5 ¼”) leap. The 5.03 meters (16’ 6”) Bridget Wolfe (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.) accomplished in the long jump gained her third. Amy Oldenburg (So.-Minocqua, Wis./Lakeland Union) was fourth behind her at 4.93 meters (16’ 2 ¼”). Oldenburg also took second in the triple jump with 10.94 meters (35’ 10 ¾”). Amy Morse (Jr.-Kaukauna, Wis.) placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 38.97 meters (127’ 10”). Hayley Suckow (So.-Elk Mound, Wis.) reached 3.50 meters (11’ 5 ¾”) in the pole vault to claim fourth.

At Friday’s Kip Janvrin Open, Kjersten Holt (Sr.-Long Prairie, Minn./Grey Eagle) took eighth in the 200-meter dash with a 27.13 time. She also was 16th in the 100-meter dash with a 13.15 time. Briana Berg (So.-Arcadia, Wis.) was right behind her at 13.17.

At the Drake Relays today, Eau Claire took sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a3:51.51 time. The competitors included Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette, Wis.), Laura Broner (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial), Corinna Saager (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./East) and Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn.).

Eau Claire’s next competition will be at Naperville, Ill. in the North Central Last Chance Meet on Friday. The next day, the Blugolds travel to UW-Oshkosh’s Last Chance Meet.
