WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES AT WARREN BOWLUS OPEN

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW – Eau Claire women’s track and field team traveled to Menomonie today to compete in the Warren Bowlus Open.

The Blugolds had four participants finish first in their respective events in the competition, and three participants finish second.

The highlight of the day for the Blugolds may have been taking first, second, and third in the 55-meter dash finals. Briana Berg (So.-Arcadia, WI) took first with a time of 7.6 seconds, Amy Bachinski (So.-Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) took second with a time of 7.64 seconds, and KJ Holt (Sr.-Long Prairie, MN/Grey Eagle) took third with a time of 7.74 seconds.

In the 3000-meter run, Molly Warner (Sr.-Mosinee, WI) took first place. She finished with a time of 10:26.58. The second place finisher came in at 10:28.50.

In the field events, the Blugolds had two participants turn in first place finishes.

In the high jump, Jessica Owens (Jr.-Elm Grove, WI/Brookfield East) finished first in the competition by jumping 1.55 meters on her first attempt. Alicia Schuelke also jumped at 1.55 meters, but she was unable to clear the bar on her first two attempts resulting in a third place finish.

The other Blugold who finished first in a field event today was Amy Morse (Jr.-Kaukauna, WI). Morse took first in the weight throw with a distance of 15.77 meters. That distance was good enough to meet the provisional qualifying distance for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

The Women’s track and field team will compete next Saturday in the Eastbay Invite at UW – Stevens Point. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
