WOMEN'S TRACK DOMINATES FALCON INVITATIONAL

RIVER FALLS - Even though there were no team results scored at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational, the UW-Eau Claire women's track team members took over the meet with more top place finishes than any other team with 10.

The Blugolds were champions in almost half of today's 21 events. A couple of Blugolds even won twice. Erin Kokta (Sr.-Brookfield/East) nabbed two top places just as she had done at last week's Viking Olympics. She went 5.38 meters (17'8") in the long jump and 11.20 meters (36'9") in the triple jump to continue her excellence. Christina Locke (Jr.-Racine/Horlick) also won two events. In the 800-meter run, Locke took first in 2:22.73. Then in the 1500-meter run she won again, this time in 4:58.72.

The Blugolds were not done yet, however. They locked up top places in many more of the track events. Shalene Huth (Jr.-Appleton/West) won the 100-meter dash in 12.96. Kjersten Holt (So.-Long Prairie, MN/LP Grey Eagle) was the 200-meter dash champ with a 26.65 run. In the 400-meter dash, Liz Kooistra (Fr.-Lakeville, MN) ran a 59.25 winning race. Jane-Marie Ovanin (Sr.-Amherst) and her 39:01.20 time won the demanding 10,000-meter run.

Eau Claire had two winners on the field side of things. Paula Crossfield (Jr.-Madison/East) became the discus throw champ with a toss of 41.22 meters (135'3"). Stephanie Barnes (Jr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) earned first and an NCAA Division III provisional qualification with a pole vault of 3.58 meters (11'9").

Eau Claire is back in action Friday for its home meet. The outdoor Blugold Open begins at noon.
