WOMEN'S TRACK YET TO BE BEATEN

MENOMONIE - The UW-Eau Claire women's track team notched its fifth victory in a row and remained unbeaten as it cruised through the Blue Devil Open with 249.33 points.

UW-Stout was second with 142 points while Saint Mary's followed them with 83.33. In fourth was the 82.33 UW-River Falls squad while St. Scholastica rounded out the top five on a 32 point display.

No team has beaten the Blugold women's track team in any meet this year. That makes for five top place finishes. Eau Claire won the Blugold Open, the UW-Whitewater Invite, the Warren Bowlus Open, the Border Battle and now the Blue Devil Open

Of 16 events, a Blugold won 11 of them. Beyond the top places, there were also some very good performances.

Erin Kokta (Sr.-Brookfield/East) took three events in an outstanding performance. She won the high jump on a 1.61 meter (5'31/4") showing and bested all in the long jump with 5.36 meters (17'7"). She then notched the best jump in the triple jump on a 10.73 meter (35'21/2") effort.

Kelly Sprague (Jr.-Mankato, MN/East) took the 55-meter dash in 7.46. Kjersten Holt (So.-Long Prairie, MN/LP Grey Eagle) ran a 27.19 200-meter dash for first while Liz Kooistra (Fr.-Lakeville, MN) became the 800-meter champ on a 2:18.53 display. Liz Faller (Jr.-Marinette) ran the fastest time in the 55-meter hurdles, that being 8.56.

In the 1-mile run, Bridget Bocher (Jr.-Watertown) took the top spot in 5:50.26. A run of 18:27.03 won Jane-Marie Ovanin (Sr.-Amherst) the 5000-meter run.

The relay team ran the fastest in both the 4x200 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay. The times were 1:47.24 and 4:08.63 respectively.

The next action for Eau Claire is next Friday in Northfield, MN for the St. Olaf event. An 11:00 a.m. start time is scheduled.
