WOMEN'S TRACK BREAKS THREE RECORDS IN LA CROSSE
LA CROSSE - The UW-Eau Claire women's track team set three records while competing in the Leo Schnur Open Friday held at Veteran's Memorial Stadium where no team scores were kept.
Breanna McMullen (Jr.-Fall Creek) played a big role in the Blugolds record setting day as she set the school record in the 400 meter hurdles and was a member of the Blugold relay team that set a new school record in the 4x400 meter relay.
McMullen automatically qualified for national competition in the 400 meter hurdles as she completed the event in a time of 1:01.76. She eclipsed her own record time of 1:02.07 which she set last spring.
McMullen, along with teammates Rachel Becker (Fr.-Gilmanton), Kalie Krueger (So.-Fall Creek), and Kristi Hansen (So.-Rosemount, MN), broke the school record in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:54.98, breaking the former mark of 3:56.04 set in 1997. The time is good for a provisional qualification for national competition.
Stephanie Barnes (Fr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) set the third Eau Claire school record of the day as she broke her own record in the pole vault competition. Barnes cleared a distance of 11-6.5, surpassing the mark of 11-4.25 which she set on May 3. The distance is also good for a provisional qualification for national competition.
The record setters were not the only Blugolds with strong performances. Brooke Wozniak (Jr.-Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) provisionally qualified for national competition in the discuss with a throw of 140-00.
Jennifer Stafslein (So.-Onalaska/West Salem) also provisionally qualified for national competition in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.64.
The Blugolds will next be in action in a last chance meet in St. Thomas on Thursday.
