WOMEN'S TENNIS HANDLES FALCONS FOR FOURTH WIAC DUAL MEET

RIVER FALLS - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team shut down UW-River Falls en route to a 9-0 victory today.

Eau Claire moves to 4-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual play. The Blugolds are 14-2-0 with an overall dual meet record of 9-0. The Falcons are 5-7 overall with a conference record of 2-4.

Only one doubles competition was close, that being the No. 1 showdown. Sarah Riordan (Jr.-Appleton/North) and Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) won 9-8 with a 7-1 tiebreaker to move to 9-2. Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) and Brenna McCormick (Fr.-Greendale) moved to 7-1 with an 8-3 final. Gina Dahl (Fr.-Fort Atkinson) and Liz Deprey (Jr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) improved to 5-1 by winning 8-4.

The singles matches were just as dominant. Riordan won 6-0, 6-2 for an 11-3 mark. Dahl and Carlson took their matches 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 10-2 and 9-0 respectively.

Geissler won with 6-1s and climbed to 5-3. Deprey's record stands at 4-2 after today’s 6-4, 6-3 victory. McCormick defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1. She is 5-1.

The next match for Eau Claire is its last at home. It plays UW-Oshkosh at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
