WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS POINTERS TO REMAIN UNBEATEN IN DUALS

EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team improved 7-0 in dual meets this season as it defeated UW-Stevens Point 9-0 today in the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The win improves the Blugolds record to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meets. The loss drops the Pointers to 2-7 in dual meets and 1-4 in WIAC meets. In the past 10 seasons, the Blugolds have swept Stevens Point seven times.

The Blugolds won every single match in straight sets. At No.1 singles it was Sarah Riordan (Jr.-Appleton, WI/North) winning 6-0, 6-2 for her ninth victory of the season. At No.2, Gina Dahl (Fr.-Fort Atkinson, WI) won 6-3, 6-1 for her eighth win of the season.

Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) at No.3 singles and Brenna McCormick (Fr.-Greendale, WI) at No.5 singles both won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) at No. 4 singles defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-0. Finally at No.6 singles, Erin Welch (Fr.-Tomah, WI) won handily 6-1, 6-4.

The doubles swept through their matches just as easily. The No.1 team of Geissler and Riordan won 8-2 to improve to 7-2 this season. The No.2 team of Carlson and McCormick won 8-1 and the No.3 team of Dahl and Liz Deprey (Jr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) improved to 4-0 this season with an 8-1 victory also.

The Blugolds will host St. Scholastica tomorrow at the Simpson Courts with action beginning at 11 a.m. They will then face the Blugold alumni at 2 p.m. If it rains the action will be moved inside to the McPhee Physical Education Center.
