WOMEN’S TENNIS COMPLETES SECOND DAY AT ITA

DECORAH, IA – The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team competed in the second day of the 2006 Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Championships today hosted by Luther College.

With all of the Blugolds singles players eliminated from competition at the ITA championships, it was the Blugolds’ doubles teams hitting the court today. The Blugolds had two doubles teams competing in the 33-team field.

The team of Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) and Sarah Riordan (Jr.-Appleton, WI/North) won their first match today over the team from Coe College (IA) by a score of 8-2. Geissler and Riordan then won their second match over the team from Luther College (IA) by a score of 8-6. Their run ended, however in the quarterfinals when they lost to the top-seeded team from Carthage College 8-2.

The other Blugold doubles team in competition was the duo of Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) and Brenna McCormick (Fr.-Greendale, WI). They lost their opening round match 8-2 against the team from Cornell College (IA).

At the Luther Fall Classic that concluded today, the lone singles player remaining, Laura Geissler had to forfeit in the semifinals so she could play doubles.

The lone doubles team competing at the Fall Classic was the duo of Courtney Lynne (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) and Gina Dahl (Fr.-Fort Atkinson, WI). Lynne and Dahl won their first match over the team from Luther College 8-2. They then won their second match over the team from St. Olaf College 8-3. However, they would lose their next match 8-4 against the team from Carleton College.

The ITA Midwest Region Championships conclude tomorrow with action beginning at 9 a.m.
