WOMEN’S TENNIS GETS BACK TO WINNING WAYS
ST. PAUL – The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak today with a 7-2 victory over the College of St. Catherine (MN). The win gives the Blugolds an overall record of 24-7 and a dual meet record of 14-4. Eau Claire had lost its final three matches down in Orlando, FL last week. St. Kate’s drops to an overall record of 8-7. The Blugolds came away with four of the six singles matches. Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) at No.2 singles, Liz Deprey (Jr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) at No. 4 singles, and Brenna McCormick (Fr.-Greendale, WI) at No.5 singles beat their opponents in straight sets. Erin Welch (Fr.-Tomah, WI) at No.6 singles, rallied to defeat her opponent 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. Welch has won eight of her last nine matches. Eau Claire swept all three doubles matches as Gina Dahl (Fr.-Fort Atkinson, WI) and Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) at No.1 doubles and Carlson and McCormick at No.2 doubles each defeated their opponents 8-2. The No. 3 doubles team of Courtney Lynne (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) and Welch won by a score of 8-4. The Blugolds now hope to get invited to the Midwest Invite in Madison on Friday and Saturday.
