WOMEN’S TENNIS BEGINS SPRING SEASON WITH A WIN

DULUTH, MN – The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team continued to add to their fall success with a 5-4 win at the College St. Scholastica (MN) to kick off the 2007 spring schedule here today at the CSS Wellness Center.

Eau Claire won four of six singles matches led by Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) who won her No. 2 singles match over Casey Ruberto 6-3, 6-4. Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) continued the Blugold win streak at No. 3 single flight winning two tie-breakers to defeat Lindsay Shoden 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2). Liz Deprey (Jr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) made it three consecutive singles victories as she beat Katie Motley at the No. 4 flight 6-2, 6-4. Erin Welch (Fr.-Tomah) ended singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Katrina Sacchetti at No. 6 singles.

The team of Brenna McCormick (Fr.-Greendale) and Kristie Carlson defeated Jess Rich and Lindsay Shoden 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. It was the lone doubles victory for the Blugolds of the meet.

The Blugolds will take the next two weeks off before returning to the court as they travel to Orlando, Florida for Spring Break to face Babson (MA) College. Action is set to begin at 11:30 A.M.
