WOMEN'S TENNIS FINISHES THIRD AT INVITE

WHITEWATER - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team finished third for the second year in a row in the Warhawk Invitational today at Whitewater.

The Blugolds No.1 doubles team of Kristie Carlson (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) and Laura Geissler (Jr.-Coon Rapids, MN) took the championship in their flight defeating La Crosse in three sets 2-6, 7-6(8-6), 6-2. Carlson and Geissler started off the day well defeating Whitewater 7-5, 6-2 and then cruised in their semi-final match against Oshkosh 6-0, 6-2.

Whitney Hay (So.-New Richmond) took second at No.3 singles losing to La Crosse in straight sets. Hay won her first match of the day defeating Oshkosh 6-1, 6-4. Hay then won her second match in a thrilling three-setter 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(7-5).

No. 1 singles player Katie Kuzma (Sr.-Buffalo, MN) took third in her flight defeating Stevens Point 6-2, 6-2. Liz Deprey (So.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) and Brit Wagner (Fr.-La Crosse/Central) also took third at No.2 doubles.

No.2 singles player Alli Taplin (Jr.-Dayton, MN/Champlin Park) and No.3 doubles players Lindsey Edson (So.-New Richmond) Kristin Neuman (So.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) each took consolation in their respective flights.

La Crosse took the overall championship sweeping the singles action with Whitewater coming in second.

The Blugolds next match will be September 16 as they will host St. Scholastica at McPhee at 3:30 p.m.
