WOMEN'S TENNIS COMPETES AT LUTHER INVITE

DECORAH, IA - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team competed today in the first day of the Luther Invitational.

In the winners bracket the Blugolds had a doubles team from each bracket advance to the semifinals.

The doubles team of Kristin Neuman (So.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) and Brit Wagner (Fr.-La Crosse, WI/Central) won their first round match 8-2 over Augustana-Rock Island in the "B" doubles bracket. The team will face UW-Whitewater in the semifinals.

The doubles team of Katie Kuzma (Sr.-Buffalo, MN) and Laura Geissler (Jr.-Coon Rapids, MN) also won their first round match 8-0 over Augustana-Rock Island in the "A" doubles bracket. The team then faced UW-Whitewater in the semifinals where they lost in a close match 9-7.

The Blugolds had no such luck on the singles side in the winners bracket as no one advanced to the semifinals. However, the Blugolds had success in the singles consolation bracket.

In the "A" consolation bracket, Kristie Carlson (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) won her consolation first round match 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals.

In the "B" consolation bracket Brit Wagner won her first round match, 7-6, 4-6, (7-4). Also advancing in the "B" consolation bracket were Whitney Hay (So.-New Richmond, WI) and Kristin Neuman. Hay won her match 6-4, 6-2 and Neuman won 6-1, 6-2.

The Luther Invitational continues tomorrow at 9 a.m.
