NATIONALLY RANKED LUTHER HANDLES WRESTLERS
Eau Claire, Wis. – Nationally-ranked Luther College kept the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team from gaining its first victory of the season with a 30-13 triumph at the McPhee Phy Ed Center Tuesday night. Luther, ranked No. 5 in the nation, was competing in its first dual meet of the season while the Blugolds lost their fourth head-to-head match this season in their home opener. Blugolds’ junior Josh Holforty (Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) improved his season record to 7-1 with a pin at 197 pounds. He ended his match in the second period in 4:35 while leading 7-0. Teammate Joey Miller (Sr.-Lake Tomahawk) gained a major decision at 174 to boost his season record to 6-3, winning by a 14-3 margin. Seth Hendricks (So.-Beloit) was the only other Blugold with a victory, gaining his first triumph of the year at 165 pounds. He had a takedown and three-point near fall in the final minute to edge Thomas Ingram Jr., 8-7. The Blugolds, who have a 30-man roster under veteran coach Don Parker, were forced to forfeit at 141 pounds, giving Luther an uncontested six points. The Norse had two pins and one major decision to go along with the forfeit and three decisions to take the match. The Blugolds will not be home again until facing UW-La Crosse in a conference dual meet Jan. 29. Their next match will be a dual in Grand Rapids, Minnesota against Itasca Community College Nov. 30.
