HOLFORTY HEADED TO NATIONALS THIS WEEKEND

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – UW-Eau Claire wrestler Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) will compete at the 2008 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships this Friday and Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Holforty, who is ranked seventh individually in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, earned one of the nine at-large bids available to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). At-large bids were selected by the WIAC head wrestling coaches at the conclusion of the WIAC Championships on February 24. The 10 individual conference champions earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. Holforty placed third at the conference championships at 197 pounds after falling in the championship match to UW-Stevens Point’s Craig Bollig and also losing in the wrestleback for second place to Whitewater’s Mike Schmidt.

Holforty enters the 2008 Championships with a 28-8 overall record. He will face Coe College’s Rob Kramer in the first match this weekend. Holforty has already defeated Kramer earlier this season by a 7-1 decision. The WIAC’s automatic qualifier, Bollig, will receive a first round bye.
