ST. CLOUD BLANKS BLUGOLD WRESTLERS

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team fell to St. Cloud State at Halenbeck Hall yesterday by the score of 42-0. St. Cloud is undefeated (6-0) in dual matches this season.

The Huskies had two pins on the night, and also received a forfeit at the 141 weight class. They also had one major decision victory along with five decisions and one technical fall victory.

The Blugolds did not win any matches on the night, but had some close matches from Joey Miller (Sr.-Lake Tomahawk, WI), Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy), and Andy Johnston (So.-St. Cloud, MN/St. Cloud Tech).

Joey Miller lost his match 3-2 against Derek Skala. Miller had the 1-0 lead, but Skala got a takedown with 33 seconds left and also received riding time to defeat Miller.

At the 197 weight class, Josh Holforty was defeated 3-1 by Nick Wilkes. The first period was scoreless, but Wilkes got a takedown and escape to get the victory.

Andy Johnston wrestled hard, but lost his match 3-1 to Chad Kusbach. Kusbach got a takedown and riding time to take the match from Johnston.

Up next for the Blugolds is the Oshkosh Open on Sunday, January 20. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
