VALIQUETTE ENDS SEASON AT NCAA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
DUBUQUE, IA – UW-Eau Claire wrestler Lance Valiquette (Sr.-Auburn, WA) lost his first two matches of the day to conclude his Blugold career at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships hosted by Loras (IA) College here today at the Five Flags Center. Valiquette, the lone Blugold to advance to the national tournament, ends the season with an overall record of 30-13. His career record now stands at 69-44 with 12 wins coming by pin. Valiquette was awarded one of nine at-large bids given to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). After receiving a first round bye, Valiquette faced Zach Bogardus of SUNY-Cortland in his first match of the day. Bogardus upset eighth-seeded Corey Murphy of Thiel (PA) by a score of 4-3 advancing to face Valiquette. Valiquette was unable to stop Bogardus who went on to win 9-6 and advance to the quarterfinals. In the wrestleback Valiquette was matched up against unseeded Brandon MacWhinnie of the Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ) in an elimination match. MacWhinnie proved too much for Valiquette winning the match 9-6 to bring Valiquette’s Blugold career to a close. The NCAA Wrestling Championships will conclude tomorrow at the Five Flags Center. Action is set to begin at 10:30 A.M. NCAA Wrestling Championship Web Site
