WRESTLING COMPETES IN DAN GABLE OPEN
OSHKOSH - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team competed in the third annual Dan Gable Collegiate Open today held at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Four Blugolds finished in the top four of each of their weight classes. Derek Sikora (Sr.-Neillsville, WI) at 165 pounds, placed second in weight class. Lance Valiquette (Jr.-Auburn, WA) at 174 pounds, Joey Miller (So.-Lake Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union) at 184 pounds, and Justin Mc Auly (Jr.-Clintonville, WI) at 197 pounds each finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Sikora, who won his weight class last weekend in the Cornell Invitational, had to settle for second this time as he lost 5-3 in overtime in the championship match to top-seeded Seth Garvin of Wisconsin. Curt Polzin (So.- Fort Atkinson, WI) finished sixth for the Blugolds also at 165 pounds. Valiquette lost in the third place match of his weight class, 8-3, to Nick Guida of Illinois. Valiquette went 4-2 on the day with one of his wins coming by pinfall. Joey Miller finished fourth in his weight class losing in the third place match 6-4 in overtime to Ben Thiem of UW-Parkside. Justin Mc Auly also placed fourth in his weight class as he lost 5-2 to Jack Lindlsey of the University of Mary. Up next the Blugolds will travel to face UW-Platteville in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meet next Friday night. The action begins at 7 p.m. Complete results - JR -
