KOLO, STARKS HEAD UP TEAM WRESTLING AWARDS

EAU CLAIRE - All-American Adam Kolo (Sr.-Vesper/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) and national qualifier Davey Starks (Sr.-Stoughton) were named team MVP's by head coach Don Parker who recently announced the 2002-03 Blugold Wrestling Award winners.

Kolo, who earned All-American status by finishing fifth at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at 197, finished the season with a 30-6 overall record. At the WIAC Championships Kolo finished second to defending conference champion Yan White of UW-Stevens Point. A three-time national qualifier, Kolo finished his Blugold career with an overall record of 101-33.

Starks entered the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships with a perfect 32-0 mark. At the WIAC Championships Starks became sixth wrestler in conference history to become a four-time conference champion, the fifth person to do so in the same weight class. An All-American in 2002 and four-time national qualifier, Starks finished his career with an overall record of 113-37.

The Most Improved award went to Chris Muller (Sr.-Rochester, MN/John Marshall) and Troy Seubert (Jr.-Maple Grove, MN). Muller improved from 26-13 in 2002 to 28-8 this season while improving his pin total from one to three. Muller finished third in the WIAC Championships at 157 this year. Seubert improved his season record from 22-18 in 2002 to 23-12 in addition to recording the two quickest pins for the Blugolds this season at 1:15 and 1:19. Seubert finished third at 174 at the WIAC Championships this season.

The Most Pins award went to Kolo and Josh Frie (Sr.-Mondovi), who each recorded six pins this season. Kolo has earned the Most Pins award four times in his Blugold career.

Captains for the 2003-04 season will be Seubert and Derek Sikora (Fr.-Neilsville). A cornerback on the Blugold football team, Sikora went 21-10 this season including a second-place finish in the WIAC Championships at 165.
