STARKS AND KOLO TO REPRESENT BLUGOLDS
Davey Starks (Sr.-Stoughton) and Adam Kolo (Sr.-Vesper/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) will be traveling to Ada, Ohio this weekend to participate in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships held at Ohio Northern University.
Starks will be looking to complete his undefeated season by taking first in the 125-pound class. Starks is 32-0 so far this year.
Starks main competition will come from three competitors. Heath Ropp of Wartburg College comes into the tournament as the number one ranked wrestler at 125 according to National Wrestling Coaches Association poll. Ropp has gone 28-2 on the year. Mitch Marks of Kings College in Pennsylvania is ranked third and is 33-1 this year. Williams College of Massachusetts is sending an undefeated wrestler of their own in Tom Prairie. The fourth-ranked Prairie is 26-0 this year.
Kolo comes into the tournament as the fourth-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds but has much competition.
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Yan White of Stevens Point is ranked third and has been a long time challenger to Kolo. Other top wrestlers include Brent Myers of Upper Iowa University, Alain Djoumessi of Wartburg, Justin Torres of Olivet College in Michigan, Rich Gildner of the College of New Jersey and Jeremy Kosch of Ohio Northern.
The first round of the tournament will kick off Friday at 11 a.m. The quarterfinals are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The second day of the tournament starts at 11 a.m. once again with the semifinals. The championship round will begin at 5 p.m.
