WRESTLERS LOSE IN CLOSE BATTLE TO STEVENS POINT

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team lost a heartbreaker to 22nd-ranked UW-Stevens Point 21-20 here today at the HEC Quandt Fieldhouse.

Davey Starks (Sr.-Stoughton) continued his drive towards a national championship but it wasn't easy as he defeated David Davila 2-1. The win moves Starks season record to 30-0.

Adam Kolo (Sr.-Vesper/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) continued his strong season as well taking a major decision over Brian Waldvogel 9-0 to improve to 25-3 on the season.

The Blugolds also got victories from Matt Renkas (So.-Wabeno), Derek Sikora (Fr.-Neillsville) and Chris Muller (Sr.-Rochester, MN/John Marshall).

The loss drops Eau Claire's record to 8-8 overall and 1-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Next up for the Blugolds is the WIAC Conference Championships. The tournament will be held in Platteville Sunday, Feb. 23. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
