WOMEN’S HOCKEY IMPROVES TO 4-0 IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Eau Claire, Wis. – On Saturday night, the UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey team beat Lake Forest College (Ill.) 4-2 in a tough conference battle. The Blugolds are now 7-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The first period did not start off too well for the Blugolds as they fell behind 1-0 early in the period. Lake Forest’s Naomi Paterson capitalized on a Blugold turnover deep in the defensive zone and scored at 4:21 of the first period. From there the teams battled evenly throughout the rest of the period, and it looked as though Lake Forest would take the 1-0 lead into the locker room. However, the Blugolds pulled even with the Foresters at 19:13 of the first with a power play goal from Margret Campbell (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata). The Blugolds wasted no time getting on the board in the second period as they took the 2-1 lead at 3:48 of the period. The go ahead goal was scored on the power play by Christine Dickinson (Fr.-Layton, UT/Shattuck St. Mary's). Less than ten seconds later Beth Dittrich (So.-Roseville, MN) took advantage of a Lake Forest turnover and beat the Lake Forest goaltender to give Eau Claire the 3-1 lead. After the Flurry of Blugold goals, Lake Forest got one back at the 5:48 mark of the second to make the score 3-2. The Score remained 3-2 till the buzzer sounded, and both teams skated off the ice. In the third period, the Blugolds controlled the game as they protected their 3-2 lead. The Foresters battled hard, but the Blugolds limited the amount of quality chances the Forester had to tie the game as they held the Foresters to only four shots on net. With about two minutes remaining in the game the Foresters decided to pull their goalie. This effort to tie the game didn’t work out for them as the Blugold’s Lauren Havard (Jr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) sealed the deal with an empty net goal at 18:58 of the third period. In net for the Blugolds, Lindsay Savat (Fr.-Apple Valley, MN/Thomas Jefferson) started her second consecutive game and earned the victory to improve her record to 4-0. After two solid efforts this weekend, Savat now has a goals against average of 1.25 and a save percentage of .923. The Blugolds were very impressive on special teams this weekend as they went 2-4 with the skater advantage for the second straight evening. The Blugolds were equally impressive on the penalty kill. They killed all four of the penalties they took. The Blugold’s next game is next Saturday, December 15. They will host River Falls. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
