WOMEN’S HOCKEY OUTLASTED BY LAKE FOREST IN DOUBLE OT

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey team had its’ season come to an end in devastating fashion Friday night falling by a score of 1-0 in double overtime to Lake Forest College (Ill.).

In the loss, Danika Porter (Fr.-Rosemount, MN/South St. Paul) played great between the pipes for the Blugolds stopping 29 of the 30 Forester shots she faced in 92 minutes and 21 seconds of play.

In this low scoring Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) playoff battle, the Blugolds were able to pepper Forester goalie Alyssa Wintermute with 32 shots. However, they were unable to beat her even once. As a result of the phenomenal efforts by both goalies the game went into overtime. After three scoreless periods in regulation, neither team was able to generate any offense in the first overtime. That all changed at 12:21 of the second overtime when Sam Pinsonneault sent the Blugolds packing with an even strength goal. Not only did Pinsonneault’s game winning goal, which was setup by Kelsey Finn and Allison Rushing, end the Blugolds season, but it also earned the Foresters a semifinal matchup with UW-Superior on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Porter recorded the heart breaking loss and finished the regular season with a record of 7-7-0.

The Blugolds ended the season with an overall record of 12-14 and 9-10 in conference play.
