WOMEN’S HOCKEY FALLS TO NATIONALLY RANKED UW-STEVENS POINT
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey team lost its sixth game of the season on Friday night when they were defeated by UW-Stevens Point 3-1. The Pointers who are ranked third in the country are now an impressive 12-0-1 on the season while the Blugolds move to 8-7. The nationally ranked Pointers lit the lamp early to take a 1-0 lead at 4:04 of the first period when Sarah Phillips scored an even strength goal. From there the Pointers continued to pressure the Blugolds as they tallied 13 shots in the first period compared to the Blugolds' five. In the second period, the Pointers continued their dominance in the offensive zone as they outshot the Blugolds 16-6. The Pointers were able to beat Blugold goalie Danika Porter (Fr.-Rosemount, MN/South St. Paul) twice on their 16 shots in the period to take a commanding 3-0 lead. The first goal of the second period came at 1:04 from Katy Lankey and the second at 5:17 from Trish Piskula. Both of the Pointers' goals were set up by assists. In the third period, Michelle Stohr (So.-South St. Paul, MN) got the Blugolds on the board with an unassisted goal at 6:02 of the period. However, unfortunately for the Blugolds that would be all the offense they could scrounge up on this night. The Blugolds were outshot once again in the third 8-6. In net, Porter provided a solid performance stopping 34 of 37 Pointers' shots in a losing cause. She is now 4-5-0 on the season. Both teams will take the ice again tomorrow at Ice Hawks Arena in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The game is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. Eau Claire-Stevens Point Box Score - TT -
