WOMEN'S HOCKEY ENDS LOSING STREAK
MINNEAPOLIS - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team defeated Augsburg 6-1 in Augsburg Ice Arena tonight to end its five-game losing streak. The Blugolds got on the board first with the only goal of the opening period. Lauren Havard (Fr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) scored the unassisted goal 6:11 into the first. It was evenhanded. Eau Claire had 11 shots on goal compared to the four of Augsburg. The Auggies evened the score 15 seconds into the middle period on an even-sided goal. At 7:20 Eau Claire reclaimed the lead for the rest of the game on an evenhanded goal by Sara Wehland (Fr.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson). The assist came from Jessie Boyles (Sr.-Prior Lake, MN). The third period was full of Blugold goals. Kelly Ivey (So.-Apple Valley, MN) scored an even-sided goal 6:18 into the final period with assists from Tara Hayner (Jr.-Stillwater, MN) and Karen Hebert (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/Holy Angels). Hebert then scored a goal of her own at 8:32. Hayner again provided an assist on this evenhanded score. At 9:16, Allie Campbell (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) scored on an advantage. Amber Stevenson (Jr.-Eagan, MN) and Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) provided the assists. Korinek made a power-play goal 15:08 into the third for the 6-1 score. Stevenson and Havard had the assists. Augsburg was held to seven shots on goal for the game. Heather Prochaska (So.-Madison/East) saved six of them. Her counterpart met 41 Blugold shots on goal and saved 35 of them. Eau Claire went 2 for 5 in advantages while the Auggies went 0 for 3. The team is now 2-5-0 overall.
