RIVER FALLS BEATS WOMEN'S HOCKEY WITH THIRD PERIOD SCORE
EAU CLAIRE - Today at Hobbs Ice Center the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team met its NCHA rival UW-River Falls and lost 2-1. The Falcons scored the only goal of the first period to take an early lead. The evenhanded score came at 4:03 into the first. Eau Claire outshot the opponents 16-12 in the period. The Blugolds struck back 15:46 into the second. Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) made the even-sided shot with assists from Margaret Campbell (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Lauren Havard (Fr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe). The Blugolds also had 18 shots on goal in the period compared to the 13 by the Falcons. However, River Falls made another evenhanded goal 6:17 into the third and held onto the lead to win by a goal. Jill Arendt (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) made 35 saves while allowing the two goals, making for 37 Falcon shots on goal. Eau Claire put up 44 shots on goal. The goalie saved 43 of them and allowed one to get through. River Falls went 0 for 3 on power-plays and Eau Claire went 0 for 2. The Blugolds are now 0-1 in the NCHA and 1-4 overall. River Falls sits 1-0 in the NCHA and 3-1-1 overall. The two battle again tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. in Hobbs Ice Center. Eau Claire-River Falls Box Score - PH -
