THIRD STRAIGHT OT AND TIE FOR WOMEN'S HOCKEY
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team has had a flair for the dramatic recently, as the past three games have gone to extra play and all three have ended in ties, including tonight's 2-2 contest against Finlandia. The ties began last Sunday with a 2-2 Lake Forest game. Last night the Blugolds went toe-to-toe with UW-Superior for a 1-1 decision before matching Finlandia tonight. This tie brings the Blugolds to a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) record of 0-6-4. The team is now 5-10-4 overall. The Blugolds were one point ahead of Finlandia in the NCHA standings after last night's games and it will remain that way. Now the Lions are 1-8-1 in the NCHA and 7-9-2 overall. Finlandia scored the lone first period goal on an even-strength shot but Crystal Wasem (Sr.-Chaska, MN) evened it up just past the 3:30 mark in the second on her first goal of the year, an even-sided strike that was unassisted. At 14:11, Finlandia took the lead again and it was on another evenhanded score. Things were looking grim for much of the third period, but at 12:33 Lauren Havard (Fr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) found the back of the net on a power-play. Assists were provided by Margaret Campbell (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Laura Brackey (Sr.-Oakdale, MN/Tartan). In OT the Blugolds had four shots on goal while the opponents managed only one extra period shot on goal. The Eau Claire defense suffocated the Lion attack as goalie Jill Arendt (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) had to only make 12 saves. The Blugolds meanwhile had a season-high 43 shots on goal. The team looks to notch a victory next Friday when it hosts the College of St. Catherine at 7:00 p.m. in Hobbs Ice Center. Eau Claire-Finlandia Box Score - PH -
