POINTERS SNAP WOMEN'S HOCKEY WIN STREAK
STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team had its three-game win streak ended in a 6-1 loss to UW-Stevens Point at Ice Hawk Arena here Saturday night. The Blugolds had scored 13 goals and allowed just six during their recent victory streak but had been out of competition for 10 days since the last win. Stevens Point, ranked No. 6 in this week's USCHO.com Division III poll, scored two goals in each period en route to the win which pushed the Pointers to 5-1-2 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association and 9-4-3 on the season. The Blugolds slipped to 0-6-1 in the NCHA and 5-10-1 overall. The Pointers outshot the Blugolds, 32-19, for the game and 11-2 in the opening period as they pushed their all-time record against Eau Claire to 20-1. The Blugolds were on the power play seven times but failed to score while giving up two shorthanded goals. Stevens Point scored twice in eight power play chances. Nicole Grossman and Jackie Drews scored two goals apiece for Stevens Point. Amanda Schultz (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) scored the Blugolds' only goal at the 9:20 mark of the third period to avert a shutout by goalie Amy Statz. That gives her seven goals for the season in the eight games she has played. The game marked the return to action of sophomore goalie Jill Arendt (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) who had missed the last four games with an injury. The Blugolds will travel to Lake Forest, Illinois Sunday for a conference game against Lake Forest College which lost a 2-0 decision to UW-River Falls Saturday.
