WOMEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO UNBEATEN ST. THOMAS IN OVERTIME
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team fell in the final seconds of overtime tonight to the fifth-ranked St. Thomas Tommies losing 3-2. The loss drops the Blugolds to an overall record of 2-9-1. The Tommies remain undefeated with a record of 8-0. In a first period that saw three goals the Blugolds jumped out in front on the Tommies scoring the first goal of the game halfway through the first period when Amanda Schultz (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) put one past the goaltender. Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) assisted on the goal.
The Tommies' Katie Jaeger would tie the game up with 6:05 remaining in the first period. The Blugolds regained the lead a minute and a half later when Amanda Schultz scored her second goal of the game. The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the Blugolds until the third period. The Tommies would tie it up with just over six minutes remaining in the third period when Courtney Sekevitch scored. The game would stay the same and it would go into overtime. The game appeared to be heading for a 2-2 tie until the Tommies' Ashley Reinhardt scored with nine seconds left to give St. Thomas the victory 3-2. The Tommies out-shot the Blugolds in the game 35-17. Blugold goalie Jill Arendt (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) played very well stopping 32 shots. Up next the Blugolds will host Bethel College Friday night at Hobbs Ice Center. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Eau Claire-St. Thomas Box Score - JR -
