WOMEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO STEVENS POINT
STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team fell to fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point 6-0 here tonight at Ice Hawks Arena.
The Pointers jumped out to a 1-0 lead 2:19 into the game and never looked back. Stevens Point would add another goal in the period to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
The Blugold defense stiffened up in the second period with Sara Steinhoff (So.-West St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley) stopping all nine Pointer shots.
Stevens Point fired back in the third period scoring two goals in the opening minute of the period. The Pointers would score twice more to give the game its final margin of 6-0.
Eau Claire stopped 26 of 32 shots but could only manage to get 13 shots off of their own. The Blugolds committed five penalties for 10 minutes with Stevens Point committing seven for 14 minutes. The Blugolds were unable to capitalize on the Pointer's penalties going 0 for 7 on the power play while Stevens Point went 3 for 5.
The Blugolds will be in action next when they host Bethel College Friday, January 2 at Hobbs Ice Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
