WOMEN'S HOCKEY BLANKED BY FOURTH-RANKED POINTERS

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team held the fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point offense in check for the majority of the game but fell to the Pointers 3-0 here tonight at Ice Hawks Arena.

The Blugolds drop to 2-6-2 for the season and 0-5 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Pointers improve to 7-1-1 for the season and 5-0 in NCHA action.

Eau Claire held the pointers scoreless the entire first period but was able to manage only five shots of their own, with none of them finding the Pointer net.

With the score tied at zero 7:39 into the second period, the Pointers got on the board with a Jackie Schmitt unassisted goal. Neither team was able to score again in the second period and the Blugolds trailed by just one goal heading into the final 20 minutes.

In the third period, the Blugolds kept the deficit to just one goal until the Pointers scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the game to make the final score 3-0.

Tara Berlute (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Holy Angels) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Blugolds, making 26 saves on the evening.

Eau Claire will try again against the Pointers tomorrow night in Stevens Point with face off coming at 2:00 p.m.
