WOMEN'S HOCKEY ON ROAD AND AT HOME THIS WEEKEND
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team has a busy schedule this weekend as it will travel to St. Paul on Friday to battle Bethel and then return home for a Saturday afternoon home match up against St. Mary's at Hobbs Ice Arena.
The Blugolds carry a 1-0-1 record into the weekend as they tied with St. Olaf 2-2 last Friday and defeated the Oles 4-3 on Saturday. Eau Claire will face off with the Royals from Bethel at 7:00 before returning home for a 2:05 match up against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Amanda Schultz (So.-Stevens Point/SPASH) and Tara Hayner (Fr.-Stillwater, MN) have paced the Blugolds in the first two games of the season. Schultz has totaled four points on two goals and two assists, including a three point performance against St. Olaf on Saturday. Hayner has dished out two assists this season, both coming in the Blugolds 2-2 tie with the Oles on Friday.
Tara Berlute (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Holy Angels) has played every minute in goal for the Blugolds and has made 44 saves.
The Blugolds history with Bethel is extremely short as Eau Claire saw action against the Royals for the first time last season. The Blugolds shut out Bethel last November with a 6-0 win and topped the Royals again in January with a 2-1 victory.
Eau Claire's rivalry with St. Mary's dates back to 2000, the inaugural season for women's hockey at Eau Claire. The Blugolds have posted a 2-2 record against the Cardinals but won both games last season by a combined score of 5-0.
Normal admission prices will be charged for Eau Claire's Saturday home event with all UWEC students getting in for free with valid student identification.
