WOMEN’S GOLF TEAM FINISHES FOURTH AT WIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team was unable to win their fourth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title this weekend at the Windwood Golf Club.

The Blugolds finished fourth out of seven teams. UW-Stevens Point won the tournament with a team score of 656. UW-Oshkosh was the distant runner-up with a score of 687, and UW-Whitewater finished third with 690 strokes. UW- Eau Claire finished fourth with a score of 696, and behind them in the final standings was UW-Platteville 708, UW-Superior 717, and Wisconsin Stout 725.

Meghan Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia, WI) turned in a great performance for the team this weekend on her way to the individual title. Sobotta shot an 80 on Saturday and a 79 on Sunday giving her a total of 159 on the weekend. Jessica Urban and Michelle Pascavis of Stevens Point finished in a tie for second one stroke behind Sobotta. Even though the team was unable to keep their streak of titles alive, Sobotta’s performance ensured that a Blugold golfer earned medalist honors for the fifth consecutive year.

Torie Ives (So.-Osseo, WI/Osseo-Fairchild), who won the event last year, was the next highest Blugold finisher with a total of 168 for the weekend. Ives finished Tied for seventh.

On day two, Brianna Obermueller (So.-River Falls, WI) showed the most improvement on the scorecard out of the five Blugolds. She dropped ten strokes from her score of 95 on day one to shoot an 85 on Sunday. She finished with a 180. Sarah Hansen (Sr.-Bangor, WI) and Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, WI) also turned in better performance on Sunday. Hansen fired a 193 for the weekend, and Swift shot a 194.

This was the team’s final event of the fall season.
